Upcoming Festivals: August 2008
It’s time for the August festival billing. First off is the Wacken-Open-Air, which starts in July and has been covered in that month’s preview. But the next festival is right behind this one.
On the weekend of the 7th to the 9th of August you can live out all of your darkest dreams at the Party.San festival in Bad Berka, Germany. This festival sports mainly death and black metal acts and even managed to get the infamous Bloodbath, to play their only German concert right there on stage. If you have never seen them live I suggest you get your tickets NOW. But Bloodbath is not all that Bad Berka has to show during their 3day festival event. Among others there will be Dismember, Bolt Thrower, Endstille, Behemoth, Impaled Nazarene and Obituary tearing it up.
Next up is the Summer Breeze Festival in Dinkelsbühl, Germany. Since the change in location, this has become one of the best events of the summer. The lineup is amazing featuring many different genres, making sure everyone gets something they will like. I will be there and hope to come back with extensive reviews for our readers to enjoy. I’m therefore especially psyched that Anathema, Cult of Luna, Ahab, Helloween, Novembre and Soilwork will be playing. Other popular acts are Arch Enemy, Aborted, Endstille, Marduk and many more. Get your ticket here and be one of the 40000 metal fans rocking it hard.
If you want to escape the German festival scene for a while you can do so on the weekend of the 15th to 17th of August. The Bloodstock Open Air takes place at Catton Hall Derby in the UK. The festival proclaims to be by fans for the fans, which seems the case when you take a look at the impressive lineup. Opeth, Soulfly, Helloween, Dimmu Borgir, Iced Earth, At The Gates, Nightwish and Kataklysm are only a few of the many major bands that will perform at this event. There will even be a major Guitar Hero contest with a lot of interesting prices. Tickets can be purchased here.
Back to Germany for the last festival in August: the Rock Area “Fest Evil” in Losheim am See. It’s a smaller festival than these other ones but it still manages to surprise with a decent lineup including Soulfly, Haggard, Dew Scented, Crematory and the hilarious Excrementory Grindfuckers. Tickets here.
