Upcoming Festivals: July 2008
As promised here are some informations about the Festivals in July 2008
On the first weekend you can have your pick between three different locations. First up is the Rock Werchter on the weekend of the 3rd to 6th of July in Belgium. The festival takes place in and features bands like Beck, Counting Crows, Nightwish, Radiohead, Slayer, etc. Tickets are available here.
At the same time will be the Roskilde Festival in Denmark. The festival has a very long history going back to the 1970s. International acts like The Dillinger Escape Plan, Slayer, Bullet for my Valentine, Judas Priest, Radiohead and many more will perform at Roskilde 2008. Tickets: here.
The last of the three festivals on the first weekend of July is a full fledged Metal festival: the With Full Force. in Löbnitz near Leipzig, Germany. It’s already the 15th installment of this event and this years you can expect musical acts by Caliban, Die Apokalyptischen Reiter, Mayhem, Moonspell, Subway to Sally and so on… Tickets can be purchased on the official festival homepage.
Let’s have a look at two smaller festivals next. First up is the Rock Harz Open Air in Osterode, Germany. One of the main points of this festival is that it has the only open air show of Amon Amarth this year but there are also other bands that should draw the crowd like Saxon, Sodom, Atrocity, Haggard, Crematory, Lacrimas Profundere, etc. If you are interested then keep your schedule free on the weekend of the 17th to 19th July. Tickets are available here.
A full fledged Metalcore festival is next on the weekend of the 20th and 21st of July in Trier, Germany. I’m talking about the recently established Summerblast Festival. The 2008 line up includes Comeback Kid, Bleeding Through, The Sorrow, Misery Speaks, but also bands like Baroness and Cult of Luna. Tickets are available here or here.
The last festival in July which leads into August is of course the infamous Wacken:Open:Air which takes place on the 31st of July to the 2nd of August in Germany. Headlining is Iron Maiden, but there are of course many other bands like Nightwish, At the Gates, Avantasia, Carcass, Children of Bodom, Kreator, Gorgoroth and many more. The festival is sadly sold out.
